Pattern: Owl Applique


As promised, here is the pattern of the owl applique I made for the cardigan some days ago. Enjoy, share and let me know what you think of it :-)



Material:

  • Yarn (Cotton Sport) in white, orange and 2 colors of your choice
  • Hook size 2,5mm or 3mm
  • sequins and beads

Instructions:

Needed skills: US terms: magic circle (click here for a video tutorial), single crochet (sc), half double crochet (hdc), double crochet (dc), crab stitch (cs) (click here for a video tutorial) slip stitch (slst) and chains (ch)

final measures: 7x7cm

Round 1: color 1: do a magic circle and * dc, ch* 12 times. you will end up with 12 dc and 12 holes. tighten the circle and slst to end the round



Round 2: color 2: into each hole (ch) make *dc, dc, ch* 12 times, you will have 24 dc and 12 holes. slst to end the round.


Round 3: color 1: into each hole make *dc, dc, dc, ch* 12 times, you get 36 dc and 12 holes. slst to end the round.


Round 4: color 2: start in the second stitch of one of the 3-dc-groups and make 1 sc, make *5 dc into the hole, 1 sc into middle stitch of the next group* 9 times. you will get 9 scallops


continue the round: into the next hole make 1 hdc, 3 sc into the stitches, 1 sc into hole, 3 sc into stitches, 1 hdc into hole, slst into beginning sc.


Round 5: turn, ch 5, slst into second backloop from hook, sc into next two backloops, hdc into last backloop of chain, skip one stitch, 7 sc across previous row, ch 5,  slst into second backloop from hook, sc into next two backloops, hdc into last backloop of chain, slst into the sc next to the scallop. finish off, create a beak using orange yarn.


Eyes: make 2: using white: make a magic circle with 12 dc, slst to end round, ch 1, cs around, finish off leaving a long tail.


sew seqins or beads onto the eyes, decorate as desired, use the tails of the eyes to attach them to the body.
